Where does a coaching mindset fit into the landscape of leading wellbeing in the workplace?

This powerful mindset sits right at the intersection of employee wellbeing and the workplace itself.

Coaching is both a practical tool leaders can use and a supportive strategy that shapes culture, communication, leadership style, purpose, autonomy, and emotional regulation.

Coaching is not just a one-to-one tool—it’s a mindset.

A coaching mindset means leading with curiosity over judgment. It’s about asking instead of always telling. It’s believing in your team’s potential to grow, not stepping in to fix or rescue.

It’s rooted in:

  • Active listening

  • Empathy

  • Psychological safety

  • Collaboration and autonomy

  • Trust-based relationships

It’s about holding space, not holding power.

When we lead this way:

  • Wellbeing becomes a shared responsibility

  • Autonomy increases

  • Emotional regulation improves

  • Social connection deepens

  • Purpose becomes clearer

It's the difference between someone who burns out in silence… and someone who feels safe enough to ask for support.

Discover the Skills Required for a Coaching Mindset (and How to Cultivate Them)

In our recent Mastermind session, ambassadors Magda Snowden and Kes Smith-Green shared their wisdom on what coaching is (and isn’t), and how to build a coaching mindset through practical skills:

  1. Discovering needs through powerful questioning and deep listening
→ Ask open questions and truly listen — not to reply, but to understand what someone really needs beneath the surface.

  2. Growing self-awareness
→ Tune into your own thoughts, emotions, and patterns so you can lead from a place of clarity and intention.

  3. Practicing curiosity and empathy
→ Replace judgment with genuine curiosity and compassion to build trust and deeper human connection.

  4. Shifting from problem-focused to person-focused conversations
→ Focus less on fixing the issue, and more on empowering the person facing it.

  5. Responding vs reacting
→ Create space between stimulus and response, so your actions align with your values, not your stress.

Ever feel irritated or triggered by someone? That reaction might be less about them… and more about you.

Welcome to the Mirror Effect — the idea that what frustrates us in others often reflects something unresolved within ourselves. Blame keeps us stuck.

But ownership? That’s where freedom begins.

In teams, emotions echo: frustration breeds frustration, avoidance breeds avoidance. When one person shifts from blaming to owning, everything can start to shift.

To do this, we must increase our self-awareness and self-ownership..

Try This: A 3-Minute Mirror Check-In

You can close your eyes, use your phone camera, or stand in front of a real mirror.

  1. Pause. Breathe.
“Imagine you’re looking into a mirror. This mirror is honest. It doesn’t lie. It simply reflects what is in front of it.”

  2. Ask yourself (slowly, with space):

    • “Who have I been blaming lately — at work, in my life?”

    • “What patterns do I keep noticing in others — maybe a lack of appreciation, judgment, resistance?”

    • “What if this was a mirror? What if these patterns are showing me something I haven’t healed or accepted in myself?”

  3. Open your eyes and reflect:

    • “What part of this situation can I own?”

    • “What would change if I chose to respond instead of react?”

Growth starts in the mirror — and it starts with you.
